Track and Field FAQS

How many events can my child do?

Athletes may enter up to 3 events, 2 max running. The only events that need preregistration are the 100 meter and/or the 200 meter for age groups 2011-2017 (Swifts, Eagles and Falcons). Relays do NOT count against the 3 event max.

Possible Event Combinations:

  1. 2 running, 1 field
  2. 2 field, 1 running
  3. 3 field

What Events are available?

Please see the Events Chart, as it depends on the age.

How does my child get a ribbon?

In the 100/200 ages 2018-2020, ribbons are handed out as participants cross the finish line.

In all other events, results will be sorted by age group and birth sex, and ribbons will be awarded at the next practice by coaches. It is possible that your child will win their heat, but not place top 8 in the overall results.

How does a track meet work?

At Velocity track meets each participant will check in with their coach to receive an age-group color-coded bib number. This number must be returned to the coach at the end of each meet. Each participant will pin this number on the front of their shirt.

Running Events:

When first call is heard over the loudspeaker for their event, they will line up in the bull pen (a gathering place near the finish line) to be put into their race.

All running events are seeded (put into heats to run) at the bull pen, except the 100/200 for ages 2011-2016. These events MUST be preregistered for.

Parents will NOT be allowed in the bullpen or on the field. It disrupts our timing and slows the meet down to have parents in the infield. PARENTS STAY OUT OF THE INFIELD. We will have a viewing area for parents, and the bleachers are open and so nice. Please stay in those areas! Please tell your kids to always, always watch the track when crossing. Besides, if you come into the infield, you will swiftly be conscripted into volunteering for the hardest job at the windiest spot on the track. :)

Field Events:

During your child's age group time slot, please report to the field event area for warm-ups and then wait in line for your turn to compete. Volunteers will scan your child into our system and type in results from their attempts.

Running Events Take Precedence.

If a running event is called while you are waiting in line, go to the running event. Return to the field event after and kindly inform the volunteer that you were at another event and they will allow you to complete your field event.

Where can I find results?

Results will be available on our website on the following day.

Can I go with my child to the bullpen?

No. No parents are allowed in the bullpen or on the infield. We promise to take care of your child while they are getting ready for their event. Parents in the bullpen really slow down the process and make it difficult for our volunteers to run the meet. If you really want to be in the bullpen with your child, the only way to do that is to volunteer for the duration of the meet as a bullpen volunteer. Please contact our League Director if you would like to do this.

Can I arrive late/leave early?

Yes, when your child has finished their events, please return their number to their coach. While we do our best to stay on schedule, our track meets are on a rolling schedule, which means we will move ahead/fall behind as needed. We have over 500 kids registered this year, so something is bound to not go as expected. We will do our best to get your kid into their events. Please be kind and calm with our VOLUNTEERS, who deserve a special place in heaven.
